Saturday 16th

The Fakes , Fistymuffs and Imogen Stirling
DOORS 7:00pm // £tbc

THE FAKES - a punk/ post punk/new wave band from Stirling. The band was formed in December 1977 by McGuire, McDonald and Keep, as the Cunts. They went through a rapid succession of guitarists - Jim Connelly, Colin Grey, "Ewan somebody from Perth", and Sean Kelly - before settling with Mairi Ross in late Summer '78, by which point the band had played just a handful of gigs. They changed their name to SK70, but although not as manifestly rude a band-name as The Cunts, this still proved too controversial a choice, as SK70 was a silicon lubricant, often used with condoms. So they became The Fakes.

IMOGEN STIRLING -is a performance poet, theatre maker and musician. Imogen toured with hip hop poetry collective Words w/ Friends in summer 2018 and debuted her solo show #Hypocrisy at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The show sold out its run, was endorsed by Loki the Scottish rapper, and was longlisted for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award. It transferred to London’s Theatre503 as part of their ‘Best of the Fest’ programme where it received a five star review.

FISTYMUFFS -Scottish Punk trio Fistymuffs have been owning the Edinburgh music scene for the last two years. Frequently playing live, they have gradually climbed the gig ladder and have recently been seen supporting international bands including Slot Face, God is my Co-Pilot and US alt rock legends, Screaming Females.

Concrete Soldiers : Film Screening
DOORS 7:00pm // £Free

Concrete Soldiers is a Film by Nikita Woolfe tackling the issue of gentrification. "Never in the last 3 decades has it been more important to take a stand and stay united. Our communities are being ripped apart and our cities taken over by greed. When I started looking at the problem of regeneration and gentrification it was just a dirty word. Now 5 years later, it’s on everyone’s lips and no one feels secure in their homes. I saw the problem from the inside, as I followed people around - normal people like you and I, trying to fight the wave of developers buying swathes land, public land which should stay in public hands not sold off to the highest bidder. People are fighting for their right to a decent home and a community. It's a basic right. The injustices I saw and keep seeing are inhuman and in many cases criminal, but no one takes responsibility. So I realised the only way to change the status quo is by creating a film which could inspire and calvanise more people to join the battle." Nikita Woolfe

BORROWED BOOKS - So, we were moseying along as a chronically underperforming punk rock trio until Mr Ray (underground superstar guitarist from US college rock band Miracle Legion) joined us and made us stop killing our songs with unjustifiable noise, and turned us into Borrowed Books. We're still a punk rock band at heart, but we play it quieter now. It's the sort of compromise we live by.
